Protien: The Best Macro?
What is the easiest food to grab when you’re hungry, bored and searching the fridge or pantry? CARBS! All of us will more often than not grab a quick sandwich, bag of chips, candies, chocolates, rice cakes, etc. Grabbing these quick foods all the time and eating them out of boredom is not doing your waistline any favours.
Rather than grabbing these quick carb snacks I challenge you to try to grab a protein snack! Why choose protein? Well, protein is a macronutrient that is a major building block for muscles, bones, skin, cartilage and has a major role in building and repairing these tissues. Protein also has a higher thermic effect in your stomach and will burn more calories to have it broken down into usable materials for your body. Lastly, a diet higher in protein will boost your metabolism which is exactly what we need right now due to the majority of us working from home and being more sedentary.
Some snack suggestions I recommend are Greek/Skyr yogurt, cottage cheese, nuts, a protein bar or shake, high quality lunch meats (turkey, chicken, roast beef), beef jerky, and/or a hard boiled egg. This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to protein snacks. See what you like and also see what will best fit into your lifestyle! Protein will better preserve your hard earned muscle mass and also help you out towards a healthier weight for your frame.
